Horizon makes it quick and easy to build flexible, mobile-responsive emails using a range of standard and custom blocks. This article gives an overview of the standard custom blocks that are available.
Adding email 'custom blocks'
When editing an email in Horizon, you can add custom blocks by clicking and dragging the relevant block from the left hand panel.
If you don't see the left panel, you may still be on the old editor and you should get in touch.
All standard email custom blocks in Horizon are mobile-responsive, and have been designed and tested to work well on desktop, web mail and mobile email systems.
You can also move rows within the email once they have been added, by clicking the left-hand “drag” icon and dragging the selected row to a new position:
Removing and copying blocks
By clicking within the custom block, you'll see a few more options
Allows you to change the colour of a custom block. The custom block needs to be editable for this to work. You can edit the email layout to make this possible, or if you aren't comfortable with html, get in touch with us.
Allows you to edit the html for that custom block. Only change this if you are confident with html.
Allows you to clone the custom block.
Allows you to delete the custom block. It will ask you to select Yes to confirm this, so as to avoid accidental deletion.
The standard custom blocks
The following custom blocks are available as standard in the Horizon editor. If you require a custom block that isn’t shown here, please contact us and we can create it for you.
Basic 1, 2, 3 and 4 column rows
The simplest custom blocks in Horizon are basic 1, 2, 3 and 4 column rows. These can contain text, links, images etc and each column can be edited separately.
To add one of these custom blocks, click “+ row” and select one of the following:
- Basic | 1 column
- Basic | 2 columns
- Basic | 3 columns
- Basic | 4 columns

Headings and logos
To add one of these custom blocks, click “+ row” and select one of the following:
- Logo
- Heading
- Heading | Logo on the left
- Heading | Logo on the right
In smartphone view, the logo is centre aligned and positioned above the left/right heading.

1, 2 and 3-column articles
To add one of these custom blocks, click “+ row” and select one of the following:
- Article | 1 column
- Article | 2 columns
- Article | 3 columns
In smartphone view, each article occupies the full width of the screen.

To add one of these custom blocks, click “+ row” and select one of the following:
- Article | 2 columns with images
- Article | 3 columns with images
These blocks are designed for images that are 250 pixels wide (2 column) or 160 pixels wide (3 column). In smartphone view, each article occupies the full width of the screen.

Articles with images on the left or right
To add one of these custom blocks, click “+ row” and select one of the following:
- Article | 2 columns with images
- Article | 3 columns with images
These blocks are designed for images that are 160 pixels wide.

Call-to-actions
To add one of these custom blocks, click “+ row” and select one of the following:
- 2 columns with an action button on the left
- 2 columns with an action button on the right

Spacers
Spacers can be used to add whitespace or a visual separator between each custom block. To add a spacer, click “+ row” and select one of the following:
- Blank spacer (adds whitespace)
- Line spacer (adds a thin horizontal line)
- Shadow spacer (adds a drop-shadow)
