The UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) provides this advice in relation to email marketing:
"When you send an electronic marketing message, you must tell the recipient who you are and provide a valid contact address. The rules on emails don't apply to emails sent to organisations, though you must still identify yourself and provide an address."
Horizon helps you to comply with this requirement, by collecting your company details and then automatically adding them to the footer of your marketing emails and web landing pages. The placeholders that Horizon uses for doing this are called "Merge tags".
About "Merge tags"
Horizon asks you for your company contact details and a few other key pieces of information when you first log in. This information is stored as part of your account settings, and you can change the details at any time if you need to. The footers in the standard Horizon email and web landing page templates include placeholders called "Merge tags" that automatically add this information, without you needing to edit the templates yourself.
You can also use Merge tags anywhere else in your email and web templates if you want to. They look like a pair of percent signs containing the tag name, and a full listing of them is given at the bottom of this page.
Changing your merge tag details
If you need to change the information for any of your Merge tags, do the following:
- Click | Settings | in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
- Under the "General Settings" heading on the left-hand side of the screen, click | Account settings |.
- The system settings are shown in what looks like a folder structure. Click the folder called | General | to expand its contents.
- Click | Merge tags |. A listing of the Merge tags is then shown on the right of the screen.
- Click the pencil (edit) icon next to the Merge tag you wish to change.
- Type your changes, then click the | Update | button.
